We got a visit from a Dutch friend yesterday, Kim van Oudheusden. She brought me the Nijntje book as a present. This book happened to be also my mothers first and favourite book. Thank you Kim!
Today, there was an exciting envelop from Holland in the mail. As a present from Pieter Harabodji I got 3 more books, thank you Pieter!

het consultatiebureau

Op de elfde dag van haar leventje werd de arme schat wel twee keer geprikt; een vaccinatie voor tuberculose en een hielprikje voor de PKU en CHT test. Het hartverscheurend gekrijs was onverdraaglijk voor deze nieuwbakken moeder evenals de aanblik hoe ze in een houtgreep werd genomen door 2 verpleegsters terwijl een derde, de lelijkste, de prikken uitdeelde. Ze werd op het consultatiebureau grondig onderzocht en tot mijn opluchting werd vastgesteld dat ze heel erg gezond is. Ze woog 3,1 kg dus sinds haar geboorte is ze 45 gram aangekomen.
Ook werd ik zelf onderzocht en alles schijnt ok te zijn; de hechtingen genezen goed en de baarmoeder is weer helemaal tot normale proporties teruggekrompen. Ook de borstvoeding is nu goed op gang, na een tamelijk frusterende periode van gehannes met bijvoeding uit flesjes, kolfapparaat en tepelkloven.
Ik vond het allemaal nogal ongelooflijk de eerste paar weken; om te beginnen is dit mensje zo klein en fijn dat het eerder een elfje uit een sprookje lijkt dan een mensje. Een soort peperkoek poppetje dat tot leven is gekomen. Vervolgens nam haar consumptie excessief toe; van 20 ml per voeding in het begin tot 70, 80 en zelfs 90 ml na tien dagen. En dan had ze nog niet genoeg, het onverzadigbare, genadeloze melkmonster! Om van de luierconsumptie nog maar te zwijgen... Ik pas inmiddels weer in m'n normale kleren maar ik ben bang dat we voor Ye Bun elke week nieuwe kleren zullen moeten kopen.
Mevrouw Hwang komt nu elke dag helpen. Ze is een held; ze maakt alles blinkend schoon, doet boodschappen, kookt alle maaltijden voor ons, is dol op Ye Bun en Ye Bun is dol op haar. Het mooiste is dat ze chefkok is geweest van een goed Koreaans restaurant dus we kunnen het zo gek niet bedenken of ze weet het klaar te maken en allemaal ook nog superlekker.
Na deze kraamperiode blijft ze een paar dagen in de week komen om schoon te maken en om de koelkast en diepvries vol te stoppen.

surprise surprise!

We never expected her to come 6 days earlier than agreed however, we can tell by now she's very impatient and stubborn. It started at 1 am when we were about to go to sleep and it took 3 hours before we realized it was actual labour happening. We arrived at the hospital at 5:30 am and ten hours later we met our daughter. What a delight! Such an endearing, gorgeous, incredibly cute creature.

no wucking forries!

The doctor checked my mother inside out yesterday and found that the cervix was too tight, the birthchannel too long and my head too high. Therefore the odds to expect a spontaneous labour within a week would be next to nothing. She proposed to induce labour artificially using hormones but I'm not even a week over due!
We already knew from the beginning that the expected delivery date of 7 April was incorrect. They reckoned this day because it's 40 weeks after the first day of my moms last period. But the next month, moms ovulation jumped two weeks in order to allow me to be conceived. Otherwise it wouldn't have happened this way. My mom and I agreed that 22 April would be a perfect birthday, which would be exactly 40 weeks after conception. It's a nice thought though that the cervix is tightly closed for it's quite comfortable here and I could easily stay here for another 10 days.
Of course I'm curious to see my parents but I'll be able to see them the rest of my life and perhaps more than I care for so I'm gratefully taking this opportunity to be carried around, protected from the tough outside world as long as it lasts.
